Open Source

Open Source Software

I said "goodbye" to M$ Windows and (most) proprietary software a while ago. I am now running Debian-Linux on my computer, and I am mainly using:

  • KDE as my desktop
  • OpenOffice as Office application
  • Scribus for Desktop publishing
  • and Debian on my nice little Zaurus SL C3200
  • and a lot of other stuff...

... and actually it is more fun than using M$ Windows...

Gnucash now with MySQL backend option

Gnucash, the open source accounting software, is working on the next stable 2.4 release, which will include the option to store the accounting data in a MySQL, Postgres, or Sqlite database.

Update, 2 September 2008

Well, not much updates recently either. It seems I just don't find much time for the site recently - work over at War Resisters' International is a bit too busy.

Goodbye OpenZaurus - hello Ångström

Well, I again gave Ångström a try, and I have to say it now works nicely. So there will not be any other OpenZaurus package from me - sorry.

Bluefish for OpenZaurus

I compiled Bluefish natively on the Zaurus, and packed it afterwards. I hope I managed to get all dependencies in the package right.

OpenZaurus

I know, OpenZaurus is dead, and Angstrom is the future, but when I tried it in spring 2007, it wasn't yet working properly on my Sharp Zaurus. So I went back to OpenZaurus for the time being.
